The former Brazilian president arrested after being considered a flight risk

Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a military coup in last fall and handed more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could facilitate a potential flight.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which included plans to kill Lula and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.
